When the World Fell Down Writen By: Gilbert/Harrison/Morley/Saxton/Timms |
When the World Fell Down is about the San Francisco earthquake of 1989. Dean was in the City on the first anniversary of the disaster and was quite surprised to find that most of the area of the city that collapsed, the Marina District, was built on reclaimed land and that "red tape in City Hall" allowed a lot of the City to be built without following strict Californian quake building codes. The most surprising thing though was that the rescuers, not the surviving victims, were the ones with most psychological trauma to overcome following the quake, as some of the sights they had seen, they can never forget.
This song is dedicated to Joann Purcell, Dean's friend in San Pedro, California. The only person he knows who can sleep through an Earthquake. For those who have never experienced California click here to see what it's like.
Built on land of dust and dirt
Rising higher, reaching to the sky
It's happened all before you know
They'll never learn, learn the reason why
Murder most foul
But the killers go free
They're playing a dangerous game
Hide behind red tape
Hide behind lies
They've only themselve to blame
Stone and Steel Begins to shake
With a deadly silent sound
Read all about it
It's front page news
The world has fallen down
Double decker highways
Stretch across the bay, running to the sea
In the city they're gonna die
They're normal people, just like you and me
Murder most foul
But the killers go free
They're playing a dangerous game
Hide behind red tape
Hide behind lies
They've only themselve to blame
Stone and Steel Begins to shake
With a deadly silent sound
Read all about it
It's front page news
The world has fallen down
Their souls cry out in pain
The roads are stained with a bloody stream
But the dead and the dying won't know the pain
Of living on with the memories and the dreams
They'll never know, they'll never know
They'll never know, they'll never know
