Stand Your Ground

Writen By: Gilbert/Harrison/Morley/Saxton/Timms

Written about the fall of the Berlin Wall this song was virtually written as it happened. The first verse was written when people were trying to leave Eastern Europe by any means possible, and the song was going to be about the injustice of being forced to live in Eastern Europe, with no right to leave. The next week the protests started, and another verse was added, then amazingly the wall came down, and the song was finished that week. With unusual foresight the middle eight was left blank, no lyrics, no guitar lick, when the song entered the studio the hole was plugged with the news clip that once we'd found were amazed fitted absolutely perfectly into the song with no timing problems at all.

You know you've earned it
Take it from me
You've been fighting all your life
To be set free
But now there's nowhere
Nowhere you can run
Because they built these city walls
Way way before your life begun

Run for the border
Run away from home
Leave behind your memories
And everything you own

Your people are marching
To make demands
In days of old they'd be destroyed
But now new freedoms are at hand
The wall is crumbling
And the curtain will fall
Tear apart the age old laws
All for one and none for all

Run for the border
Run for your life
Your country's future
On the edge of a knife

If you think it's right
If you think it's right
The wall falls down
Then it must be right
Yes it must be right
You must stand your ground

Now things are changing
And the lies are exposed
The power of might has put things right
The base of power has been deposed
The old guard's leaving
They have no choice
The people's power grows by the hour
Until it sings with one strong voice

Open the border
And run for home
Liberty and freedom
Now the bad bird has flown

If you think it's right
If you think it's right
The wall falls down
Then it must be right
Yes it must be right
You must stand your ground
