The Hunger

Writen By: Gilbert/Harrison/Morley/Saxton/Timms

A slightly alternative take on dealing with famine, The Hunger set out to be an ear crunching Mosher's Favourite, and judging by the reaction it received, it hit the spot. The studio version suffered from a bit of poor mixing, the second portion of the introduction is supposed to be be lead by a "big church organ sound", the guitars cut back to a rhythm only part to allow it through but it's so far back in the mix you only really hear it when everything stops.

You look out through your distant eyes
You don't see what I'm doing
A million hungry faces
With their revelation brewing
I stalk by night and I feed by day
I take just what I want
I feed by blight and an insect plague
A long and heavy drought

The generals in their ivory tower
Try to protect their land
But guns and bombs are no defense
When the soil has turned to sand
I play by rules that they cannot break
No matter how they try
All the fools whose lives I take
Think they're never gonna die

They cry for mercy and the world will help
Hear the people crying, the souls you're damning
The hunger's growing and it's getting worse
Hear their souls bleeding, the curse of famine

Since the time of Maltheus, they've tried to prove him wrong
But they won't live to grow old
Trying to live on arid land that cannot live alone
The hunger's taking it's toll
Years go by, more people die
Returning to the soil
Try as they might, it'll never be right
In a million years of toil

The only way to save their lives is not to help them live
Their garden will never grow
Force them to more luscious lands or let them die alone
They'll die like angels of stone
Across the land is a torrent of sand
Dreams have turned to dust
If this is planned by God's own hand
Then his reasons are unjust

They cry for mercy and the world will help
Hear the people crying, the souls you're damning
The hunger's growing and it's getting worse
Hear their souls bleeding, the curse of famine

They cry for mercy and the world will help
Hear the people crying, the souls you're damning
The hunger's growing and it's getting worse
Hear their souls bleeding, the curse of famine
