Room With No Doors Writen By: Gilbert/Harrison/Morley/Saxton/Timms |
Inspired by the comments of hostages John McCarthy, Terry Waite and Jackie Mann, Room With No Doors was a comment on what was quite common place in the early 1990's but now mercifully seems to have abated a little. The last verse comes from John's comments about the absolute shock of coming from seeing no-one to being surrounded by so many people all asking questions. The song moved Out in the Cold from the final slot in the the set and was the first song to have a proper "introduce the band" section, with solos from each musician included, making this the longest Headstrong song ever at over six and a half minutes. This one is also only found on the Grey Goose tape from 15th of January 1992.
Hiding here is easy
When there is no-one to see
I've lost my will for living
I've lost my will to be free
You know that you're on your own
When the shadows lead the score
You know there's nowhere left to run
From a room with no doors
Minutes turn to hours
And hours lead on to days
The years pass by in a timeless void
But the empty darkness stays
You know that you're on your own
When the shadows lead the score
You know there's nowhere left to run
From a room with no doors
I'm sitting here in the darkness
Imagination is my only friend
I live the life of a million dreams
When will this nightmare end
I'm coming out of the darkness
Into the light of a million hungry eyes
Into a room of unreal sharpness
Into a room of unreal size
Protect me from the hordes of madness
I need a place to learn to live
I need a home to nurse the sadness
To find a new life and forgive
